Hello reader.   I hope that all is well in your world... mine is good.  Moving and changing jobs took a bit of time away - but it was "Pandemic Time" so it really doesn't count.  Since 'Rona is still on a rampage and NOONE WANTS TO WATCH A Zoom Movie, it may seem like I have stopped but I am just biding time.  I have some recordings for the "support" podcast in raw form and will be editing into short sessions and posting soon. Film update is that the fella seen above here and I are working on an early January in person meeting to do an interview. The fella below and I are going to do a Zoom soon and I'll drive up to his pad and do in person when the weather allows.  In the mean time I continue to gather assets and contact folks that are the heart of racing - Mechanicians - behind the scenes women and men that put the show on....we could never have this sport with out them and they deserve recognition.  Film making is an Endurance Race and I'm in to t...

Howdy, been a while.    We are still unpacking and rehabbing our home in Walnut Creek after renting it out for the last 8 ish years. Funny that I just realized my first time in this home was today in 1974...damn 47 years !  I was looking for more image assets the other day and scored a unique one seen here.  These fellas are Mechanicians of the 1950s . Not big time Indy guys but real local guys, doing it for the love of the sport.  As I scanned the image I was struck with a few things.  1.  The hills looked familiar I was thinking Hollywood but a Google got me to Bonelli Ranch Race Track a.k.a. Saugus Speedway - near my office in Santa Clarita :  SAGUS SPEEDWAY . 2. Then there was seeing one of the Jim Russell Mechanicians from 2004 ish : Mike Kelley sitting right there in the front row - strange how he hasn't aged since the 1950s  3. Now that I am basically resettled and the home studio is set up for video calls/podcast calls and its almost ...

1927 or 1928 William De Vore, Mechanician at right who was planning on filling in for his late father at Indy 1930.    Hello Reader,  If you are anything like I am the 500 holds fond memories of watching with Dad on the TV. My earliest recollection is watching on the TV with Dad in 1968 or 1969 ( I recall yellow footy fleece vividly ). Yesterday, I was having a chat with Jonathan Gashel - Lay Down Kart Racer, Mechanic and Father.  As we caught up, he mentioned that he and his oldest son Micah are flying in Saturday to meet up with Jonathan's Dad to continue the tradition of going to the 500.   Jonathan's Dad has gone since 1983 - only missing 1999 & 2020.   Jonathan started in 1988 and missed 1996, 1999 and 2020. Micah since 2017, also missing 2020.  Well I guess we all sorta missed 2020 in general so that doesn't really count.  That is just one family story of the tradition of going to the track on race day.  That kind of dedic...

Back in action ! 11 May 2021

Hey there - happy Tuesday ! Finally back in to some semblance of order after completing the pack - move and unpack of real life.  Sound tests here at the house ( Covid Cabana del Norte ) have proven excellent -  at 0408 when I cannot sleep  and even afternoon when the wind blows outside and the birds insist on chirping! and I haven't even applied any sound treatment.  For perspective, the minimum at ( Covid Cabana del Sur ) was 56 db at 0330 week days,  the max as I was fumbling with the iPhone for teh screen shot above.   Also I have started Reaper tutorials for a better Digital Audio Workstation ( DAW ) and have a SHURE SM 58 mic that is perfect for my end.  Another biggie is that my video/audio platform -  riverside.fm -  has launched an iPhone app to make recording easier for guests!  Imagine,, not having to have laptop or desktop and camera work for guests!  Now its HD video and audio from the device in your pocket....

Podcast Progress : https://themechanicians.com/ 7 March 2021

Greetings follower The sideways move to a Podcast has made me take on a whole new set of research.  The point of the podcast will be outlined in Episode 1 but basically I need to capture good solid audio & stories before we lose any of the speakers to time.  Thus far I have learned a lot about these things: Reddit  https://www.reddit.com/r/podcasting/   This forum has a plethora of good information w/o too much internet snark.  WordPress via   NameCheap.com for the Easy WP  . Its there are "bigger ways" to do this with more control and etc. but easy is right in the name and it works.  Also from the WPBeginner YouTube  and they have a very active Facebook page too.  Audacity:  https://www.audacityteam.org/   . No its not the most zippy DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) but it works just fine to start.   My brother Joel   https://www.joelevancoaching.com/  gave me a heap of help f...

GLORY BE ITA BACK

Y'all  Check it  You have 25 days after you screw up before Google Man deletes your stuff permanently  TWENTY FIVE  So I re-subscribed to the G Suite and BAM everything returned unharmed  lesson : READ THE WARNINGS AND SLOW DOWN  Tell a friend they have 25 days to unscrew and there is a 14 day free trial too  But I'll stay at $30 a month and drink cheaper wine each month  Thanks MTP Vinny   (you know who you are)

Lesson learned

Welp I managed to delete 8 months worth of work from my Google Drive.   In an effort to repurpose the budget for a Podcacst I managed to unsubscribe from Google G Suite Enterprise. I found a better audio and video platform to record remotely.  Today I learned that this also deleted the DRIVE folder instead of just reverting to teh free storage level and it also killed my buzz@racecarmechanic.com e mail.  Lesson learned.  As we used to say in the barn, Start over, do better and don't fuck it up this time !  ...-rob
